He was also one of the first surgeons in the world to publish medical articles about revolutionary wavefront-guided technology.
David R. Shapiro, MD, earned a degree in medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine and completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis). Following his residency at UC Davis, Dr. Shapiro spent two fellowship years studying refractive surgery under the distinguished J. Charles Casebeer, MD, often referred to as “the father of modern refractive surgery.” He is one of only 14 surgeons in the world to have studied in an extensive one-on-one fellowship under the direction of Dr. Casebeer.
Dr. Shapiro remains dedicated to advancing the field of ophthalmology and laser eye surgery, regularly teaching other eye doctors.
