Robert W. Snyder, MD, PhD, is a board certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained corneal surgeon. Dr. Snyder is a respected and acclaimed professional who has been selected as one of the “Best Doctors in America” and as one of the “Best Docs” in Tucson. He has a special interest in cataract and laser vision correction surgery and performs the most advanced techniques of “Custom Cornea” surgery using the Epi-LASEK and LASIK procedures.
Dr. Snyder has been performing vision correction, including LASIK in Tucson, for more than 19 years. He is a tenured professor at the University of Arizona in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. For his philanthropic work he was presented with the Lions distinguished “Humanitarian of the Year” award for the State of Arizona. Dr. Snyder embraces the opportunity to provide his patients with high quality eye care in a safe and comfortable environment.
Dr. Snyder is in private practice in Tucson where he provides his patients with excellence in vision correction. He and his experienced laser eye surgery team incorporate the latest diagnostic technology with the most advanced laser delivery system to elicit a refractive correction that is as unique as each patient’s eye.
Tucson patients are provided a free screening to determine if they meet minimum criteria for a “good” LASIK outcome. Refractive error, pupil size, cornea mapping, and cornea thickness are determined during the exam to determine eligibility for refractive surgery. Dr. Snyder performs LASIK with the bladeless IntraLase method. He also performs the Advanced Epi-LASIK alternative to LASIK, which many consider less invasive, as well as, “state-of-the-art” presbyopia correcting cataract surgery.
Robert W. Snyder, MD, PhD, earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Utah in 1977 and his Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University in 1983. After graduation, Dr. Snyder completed ophthalmology residency training and a fellowship in cornea and external disease at the Medical College of Wisconsin. In 1988, Dr Snyder joined the faculty of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Arizona where he served as Chairman from 1991 until 2004. Currently, he is in private practice in Tucson Arizona, and is a tenured Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Arizona. Dr. Snyder has conducted a great deal of research focused towards advancing the science of vision care. He has published more than 75 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts and also has two patents.
Dr. Snyder is affiliated with a number of professional medical societies, some of which include the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and The Ocular Microbiology and Immunology Group of which is he a past president. Dr. Snyder has spoken frequently at national and international eye care meetings.
Dr. Snyder’s primary goal and source of professional satisfaction is to provide you with the best possible care. To this end he limits his sphere of surgical activity and aims to “do a few things and do them well.” His focus is on laser refractive surgery “LASIK and Epi-LASIK,” advanced cataract surgery and “presbyopia correcting intraocular lenses.” He makes himself available to his patients and does not delegate preoperative and postoperative care to other providers. His top priority is to help you meet your visual needs.
