About Dr. Rand

Dr. Rand is considered among the most skilled and experienced eye surgeons in the world. Over the course of his career he has performed over 50,000 microsurgical and refractive procedures. An innovator in the field of ophthalmology, Dr. Rand co-developed the Rand-Stein Analgesia Protocol for laser vision correction and cataract surgery and has conducted extensive work on the connection between cataract surgery and pseudoexfoliation syndrome. His research in this area is aimed at preventing and reducing the incidence of cataract surgery complications for physicians worldwide.

In addition, Dr. Rand is a strong advocate for healthcare reform. He has had significant influence on politics in Florida and the U.S., serving as an advisor to various congressmen. Dr. Rand also donates his time and skills to help patients in underdeveloped countries who are in need of surgery and eye care services. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Diabetes Research Institute since 1990 and became the first chairman of the Florida Regional Board in 2003. He and his wife have been strongly devoted to the institute since 1985, shortly after their son’s Type I Diabetes diagnosis.
