James Katz, MD, earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin and his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Illinois Eye & Ear Infirmary. Dr. Katz continued his training with a fellowship at the Casebeer International Eye Center and the University of Utah Moran Eye Center. The fellowship allowed him to be one of the first doctors in the Midwest to perform LASIK and train other surgeons in LASIK both nationally and internationally. He was the initial principle investigator in the Chicago area for the Visiogen Synchrony Lens and the first surgeon in Chicago to implant the AcrySof Toric IOL to reduce astigmatism during cataract surgery. Dr. Katz is a talented surgeon who continues to pioneer advanced technology in refractive cataract surgery in three dimensions. The Midwest Center for Sight is the first ophthalmic practice in the state of Illinois to adopt TrueVision 3D HD surgical visualization for the operating room. Dr. Katz is a well-known author and a coveted speaker whose charity work has been covered by media worldwide. He is currently involved in building eye care clinics in remote areas of Vietnam. He is also a recognized representative of the Illinois Association of Ophthalmology and serves as the Medical Director of Golf Laser Vision. Dr. Katz is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
