Dr. Stephen Updegraff, MD, FACS

Stephen Updegraff, MD, FACS, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained refractive surgeon and pioneering LASIK specialist based in Tampa Bay, Florida. Dr. Updegraff’s experience with LASIK extends back nearly two decades, when he was a member of a unique team of surgeons studying and perfecting LASIK in the mid-1990s in Bogota, Colombia, prior to its introduction to the United States. He then went on to perform the third LASIK surgery in the U.S. and the first in Asia, where he demonstrated the procedure to hundreds of Chinese doctors, and has also earned seven U.S. patents for developing instruments and techniques used in LASIK and microsurgery of the eye. Dr. Updegraff has been named one of the “Best Doctors in America” by Tampa Bay Metro Magazine for three years and has been featured as an expert in his field in media outlets such as the St. Petersburg Times, The Tampa Tribune and Bay News 9. Dr. Updegraff frequently trains other ophthalmologists in eye surgery and participates in educational videos, conferences and lectures pertaining to laser eye surgery.
