Dr. Matthew Albright, MD

Matthew Albright, MD, is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who specializes in medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the cornea, ocular surface and anterior segment. He also performs advanced laser vision correction procedures such as LASIK and micro-incision cataract surgery. He is committed to providing outstanding eye care and treats patients at our VisionAmerica Birmingham practice. Dr. Albright has performed many LASIK procedures and is widely respected for the thorough, personal attention given to each patient.

Not only does Dr. Albright enjoy helping patients eliminate their dependence on glasses and contact lenses, but he also treats patients with complex, debilitating eye conditions. He offers a range of sophisticated treatments for corneal transplantation, endothelial dysfunction, Fuch’s corneal dystrophy and corneal swelling. Dr. Albright has participated in major clinical trials that have led to revolutionary treatments such as the DSAEK procedure for keratoconus. This slowly progressing disease causes an irregular protrusion of the cornea and can lead to serious vision loss.

In addition to LASIK procedures and other complex corneal procedures, Dr. Albright also treats patients with cataracts utilizing the most advanced intraocular lens implants available today.

Matthew Albright, MD, received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University and completed his medical studies at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He served his ophthalmology residency at Case Western Reserve University, where he was selected Chief Resident his final year. Dr. Albright continued his training with a fellowship in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery at the Washington University Eye Center in St. Louis. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
